Pippa Coom - Grey Lynn Farmer's Market & Cycle Action Auckland

BACKGROUND

Pippa chairs the Grey Lynn Farmer’s Market committee, is (until recently) on the committee for Cycle Action Auckland, a coordinator of Frocks on Bikes – Auckland and is on the steering committee of Grey Lynn 2030.

The Grey Lynn Farmer’ Market (GLFM) is a 100% community owned social enterprise. Since it opened in September 2009 it has operated as an incorporated society with a voluntary management committee and a paid manager. All revenue is used to promote and further the aims of the market.

Catalysed by sustainability group, Grey Lynn 2030, when several community members identified the demand to create a community owned and operated Farmers’ Market, a basis to provide fresh, local produce in a unique, vibrant inner-city location. The GLFM encourages the participation of the community and brings it together regularly, fostering new relationships and projects. One of the goals is to attract more young people and families to shop at farmers' markets and enable people to see the real value of local food. The market also supports 'kiwi ingenuity', acting as a small business incubator and a platform from which to launch unique local products.

Cycle Action Auckland (CAA) is a cycling advocacy group whose aim is to make Auckland a great place to cycle. CAA would like to see more Aucklanders choosing to cycle for daily transport and recreation.
