Isthmus
BACKGROUND
Isthmus is a New Zealand-based design practice with an international profile in executing award-winning landscape architecture, urban design and landscape planning. They are a design-focused, collaborative and innovative team with offices in Auckland, Tauranga and Wellington. Established in 1988, the company is led by four Directors with six associates and currently employs over 30 staff. Isthmus work with local government and private sector clients, and collaborate with community and cultural groups and other disciplines to improve the quality and richness of our cities, towns and landscapes.
HOW SUSTAINABILITY IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE ORGANISATION
Isthmus Tauranga has endeavoured to embrace and embed sustainable business practices in many areas of the organisation. For a business emerging in the sustainability space (less than two years), it has made great inroads in energy, waste and travel. Isthmus interacts positively with its staff through its vision: “The Best people, doing the Best work, for the Best clients” translates into a successful organisation. Initiatives like the introduction of a mid-winter annual leave day in order to celebrate Matariki, and the Isthmus Environment Fund whereby staff can apply for funding for environmental projects in the areas that they live and work, demonstrate a tangible demonstration of the importance the organisation places on its staff.
