350 Aotearoa

350 Aotearoa

BACKGROUND

350 Aotearoa is the New Zealand arm of the international campaign (350.org) to unite the world around solutions to climate change. 350 parts per million is the scientifically proven safe level of CO2 in our atmosphere. The bad news is we’re already past that number - at 392 ppm and rising at 2ppm per year. The good news: that number gives us a target to aim for. 350 Aotearoa is using the number 350 to mobilise global action on the worst crisis humanity has ever faced.

Less than three years ago 350 Aotearoa was launched with the mission to inspire and engage individuals, communities, businesses and government around climate change solutions. 350 Aotearoa focuses on supporting grassroots climate organisers to spread its message through practical, visual actions. It is a youth-led organisation and focuses its energies on providing education, inspiration, tools and creative ideas to deliver leadership skills to young people to engage their communities in climate action. It also plays a lead role in the delivery of 350.org’s Pacific work.

This movement is about collaboration and bringing people together and has produced results. 350 has led two of the most widespread global days of action in the planet's history (according to CNN and others) in both 2009, 2010 and 2011. New Zealand played an instrumental role in building this global movement.
