Operating in a challenging industry where tendering is often heavily weighted to price rather than the whole of life project cost and performance Andrew.Stewart Ltd encourage clients to deliver their development projects from a social, environmental and legislative perspective. The RMA although not without it's frustrations, itself doesn't create the problems – which are more often due to an outdated industry culture which puts hard engineering before the environmental, social and legislative environment. It is not acceptable these days to draw a line from A to B and say “this is what is going to happen”. It will lead to resistance and cost blow outs further down stream. Andrew.Stewart is at the fore front in developing meaningful community engagement and stakeholder consultation.
Close to home Andrew.Stewart has developed an exciting project called the Low Carbon Zone - a business cluster concept where businesses collaborate within their geographical area on sustainability issues. Based in their own neighbourhood, the Victoria Quarter in Auckand's CBD, Andrew.Stewart drew on their own experience as an SME to develop the low carbon zone toolkit to help other businesses lacking in time and resources to make sustainability simple. It's a cluster idea based on the philosophy that working together on problems such as waste and energy is ultimately cheaper, easier and creates community.
